So excited! My uncle is teaching this book (for like the 20th time) in his literature class at Brooklyn College so we’re rewatching the series- I can say it is in fact English Lit Professor approved, as well as being waaaaaaay more fun than the original movie.
i would!! but i haven't started the series yet so it would be irresponsible to hear any spoilers 🙂↕️ but if there's anything he says on general vampire symbolism or anything that references the first book... lmk queen
Ahhhh I’m so exited!!! I finally downloaded substack and this is gonna be my first book club read. I recently started reading east of Eden but I couldn’t keep going so I’m gonna read this first
Apparently it’s a Cain and Abel retelling, and I do kind of get that vibe from it so far. It’s really interesting but honestly I’m only 4 chapters in, so I can’t even give you a proper gist of it yet. But yeah, so far it’s good. Also I love u so much!! I’ve been watching your YouTube for years and your video essays are like no other. It’s so cool that I can be apart of this book clubbb!
I have been obsessed with Anne Rice for several years now. I recommend all the interviews you can find on YouTube. Her mind is enchanting. She has fabulous personal style that only makes her grandiose and disturbing storytelling make that much more sense. I’m onto the second book in the series - The Vampire Lestat - and I am falling in love with her love for him. I just started the tv show and it’s better than I expected; having some insight from the second book gives the story of IWTV a new context from before. Anyway - was so excited to see this post.
Finally caved and joined Substack! Just downloaded this month’s read onto my kindle. The community seems so nice, can’t wait to see what’s to come 🙂↕️.
Ok so prefacing this with the fact that I haven't actually read the book yet (it's on the way to my new flat which I'm moving into this weekend!)... In terms of Anne Rice's faith/lack of it throughout the years she wrote the Vampire Chronicles, I read this academic chapter which was really insightful! It explains how she went from being raised Christian to becoming an atheist to then returning to her faith and ultimately returning to her atheism again, and how that impacted her writing of TVC. I'll leave the citation below and can possibly share a copy? If any of you guys have access to academic libraries it's really worth it ✨

OMG OMG OMG!!! Currently in Salem right now on tour & have my copy with me, this made my dayyyy!!! 🥹💕💕 can’t wait to discuss this one with you all!!! Thank you Mina!!!
im also cautious of new platforms but i genuinely find substack to be the most tolerable of them 😅 especially if you just stay in the chat / inbox pages and avoid the infinity scroll of the home feed
The tv show is so freaking good too!!
OK FINE I'LL WATCH

as a lestat truther, i'm absolutely going to read next
Anne Rice left such a mark on my tween years ahahah, anything fan made used to have a copyright claim under section 107 of the copyright act 1976
oh boy 😭 reminds me of when youtubers would put copyright disclaimers in their descriptions any time they talked about or made edits of a movie
truly someone deserving of “her impact” comments hahaha
Omg Mina please watch the show!
